Did you Know
Seneca Falls Library is a corporation chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. Our charter application states that we are to be a membership corporation with by-laws, officers and a board of trustees elected by the membership, who oversee the operation of the Library and the care of affairs, property and assets. It is essential that we maintain an active roll by annual payment of dues.
Many persons believe that we are a tax-supported library. In actuality, about 60 percent of our operating expenses from the combined revenues of tax-supported agencies, while the rest must be raised from members and in other ways. This is an added reason we need your membership support to augment our income. The Library receives approximately 8 percent of its operating expenses from Seneca County United Way.
In 2005, fewer than 400 association members contributed $26,340 toward library operations. Those members represent less than 13 percent of today’s 5,341 card holders. In view of this, we must improve our membership revenues if the Library is to survive and continue the services and programs currently provided.
Membership dues and contributions to the Library are deductible for income tax purposes.
