William Heyen at Seneca Falls Library
Renowned Poet reads from his works
Poet William Heyen will read a from selection of his award winning poems at the Seneca Falls Library on April 25th at 7 p.m. in honor of National Poetry Month.
Dr. Heyen was Professor of English and Poet-in-Residence at the State University of New York at Brockport for nearly 20 years, until his retirement in 2001. A former Senior Fulbright Lecturer in American Literature in Germany, he has won awards and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, Poetry magazine, and the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. His work has appeared in Harper's, The New Yorker, American Poetry Review, TriQuarterly, The Southern Review, The Ohio Review, The Nation, The Ontario Review, and in many anthologies.
Heyen wrote the novel, Vic Holyfield and the Class of '57 (1986) and edited American Poets in 1976 and The Generation of 2000: Contemporary American Poets. His book of poetry, Crazy Horse in Stillness was awarded the 1997 National Small Press Book Award for Poetry. Shoah Train, a book of poems inspired by the Holocaust, was a National Book Award Finalist in 2004.

In 1996 Dr. Heyen won the Fairchild Award and the Small Press Book Award for Crazy Horse in Stillness an exploration of the lives and significance of George Armstrong Custer and Crazy Horse.
