Seneca Falls Library Membership Campaign
The Seneca Falls Library has launched its 2006 Membership drive.
The Library is NOT a Public Library, it is an Association Library, which by definition depends on the support of Members. It is time to support the Library and the services and programs it provides.
The Seneca Falls Library works hard to be a good community asset and a good neighbor. Last year 35,955 people visited the library, which spent more than $30,000 to purchase new books, DVDs, books on tape, children's books and large print books to meet the demand. And the newest audio books are now available and downloadable from your home for Seneca Falls Library card holders.
The library also hosts programs ranging from the Syracuse Symphony String Quartet, to children's book clubs, playwright and poetry readings, speakers on gardening and bird migration, art on the walls, an evening of Irish country music and a Christmas bell choir. We try to provide an opportunity for everyone to visit and enjoy a book or a program. Everything at the library is free, open and available to the entire community.
The library is open every day for a total of 60 hours each week. We buy books that are borrowed by people who cannot otherwise access those books. We provide programs for residents here at the library in our own community. More than 4,000 items were borrowed from the library in January - a 33% increase over January 2005.
Having a strong library with good services and cultural programs is apparently also important for residents. In a 2005 village survey, residents scored the library as the highest-rated public service in the town and village. A strong library is important to residents and visitors who utilize the information stored here and to potential residents when measuring the value of our community.
Now we are asking you to be a good neighbor. In order for the Seneca Falls Library to continue our good deeds, we need help from our neighbors in the form of memberships. The library needs support for the many programs offered to those who otherwise would not be able to afford the books, information and the enjoyment they receive here. Our three largest programs – the children’s Summer Reading & Theater Adventure, the Donor Appreciation Evening, and free computer classes -- need support at many levels. The library is working hard to raise funds each year and from a cross-section of people. Each person and each membership is important to our goals. Only 12.5 percent of card holders are members. A membership from each card holder would certainly maintain our current hours, book purchases and programs so important to those who visit.
Membership supports the library in many ways and provides you with the library newsletter detailing our new books, services, programs, and with a calendar of events. Please make a membership donation today to help ensure continued success of events at the library. You will feel enriched for being a good neighbor who cares about the community where you live!
