On-Line Seneca Falls Library Catalog New and Improved

On July 12, library services at the Seneca Falls Library will take a big step forward.

That is the day the new Polaris on-line circulation and catalog system debuts. Library users will still be able to access the collections of all 35 libraries in the Finger Lakes Library System, place holds on-line, and view their personal library records from any Internet connection 24 hours a day, seven days a week by connecting to the library’s Web site.

The new Polaris system offers all these things and adds new helpful features that are a real step forward. With Polaris, individual passwords allow greater security for patron’s records. Library users can also save personal information searches, have them re-run at a later date and get the results via e-mail. Polaris will also allow card holders to access periodical and reference databases that the system subscribes to more easily. Students doing research or homework can have the system automatically format a bibliography of selected items in a choice of style formats.

The Polaris interface that patrons use is Web-based. As a result, patrons will feel comfortable using the new library system since it functions just like their computer at home or in their offices.

After July 12 in addition to your library card number, passwords will be required to access your patron accounts in Polaris. Initially the last four digits of your phone number will be used until you choose your own password.

If you have any questions, call the library at 568-8265 Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.; closed Sundays during the Summer.
