Descriptive Videos Now Available Through the Finger Lakes Library System
What are descriptive videos?
These are films in VHS format that provide descriptive narration of the key visual elements of television programs and feature films to make them accessible to viewers with visual disabilities. The terms "key visual elements," mean any part of a presentation that such viewers would ordinarily miss, such as the characters' actions, costumes, gestures, and facial expressions, as well as scene changes and on screen text -- all of which are important to fully understand the program or film.
The Finger Lakes Library System now has a collection of descriptive videos available for loan. These films range from "Alice in Wonderland" to a Nova program on hurricanes to "Singin' in the Rain". The system plans on acquiring descriptive films in DVD format in the future.
Individuals interested in requesting these films should contact the Seneca Falls Library, which has a complete list of available titles. The Seneca Falls Library is located at 47 Cayuga St., Seneca Falls, NY 13148; 315-568-8265 and ask for the circulation desk.
