The Cramers Win Library Award

Cramers

Don and Ann Cramer of Cayuga Street, Seneca Falls, were recently recognized by the Finger Lakes Library System for their commitment to the Seneca Falls Library.

At the system's annual meeting Oct. 19 in Auburn, it was announced that the Cramers were the recipients of the Ruth Polson Public Service Award. The award is given annually to a person who has made a significant contribution to the betterment of library service in the region or made, over time, a significant contribution to his or her local library.

Don Cramer has been a library trustee since 1994. His wife, Ann, helped found the Friends of the Seneca Falls Library group and serves as its secretary.

In announcing the award, FLLS Director Karen Creenan mentioned how libraries often have some devoted trustees, an advocate who promotes the library in the community or a Friends group that provides support.

"And every now and then, a library gets lucky and has all three to help them deliver excellent service in their communities," she said. "In the case of Seneca Falls, these three advantages can be found in one dynamic team, Don and Ann Cramer."

In nominating the Cramers, former Seneca Falls Library Board President Susan Porter noted the couple shows their love for the library in small and large ways. They lobby publicly on its behalf, have encouraged other agencies to use the library and made a major leading gift in the campaign to build the new facility.

Don Cramer, a retired advertising executive, formerly served on the Seneca Falls school board and was a trustee of the Finger Lakes Library System. He currently serves on the board of the House of Concern and Literacy Volunteers of Seneca County.

Ann Cramer was the librarian at Frank Knight Elementary School for 16 years and formerly served as a village trustee for four terms. Ann has been a Seneca Falls Historical Society board member. She is active in Democratic politics and is also currently on the board of Literacy Volunteers. Ann won the BPW Woman of the Year Award and the Convention Days Community Service Award.

The Cramers have three grown children and four grandchildren.

The couple will be honored locally on Nov. 19 at the Donor Appreciation and Second Anniversary Celebration, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the library, 47 Cayuga St. The event is open to all library supporters and donors and will feature hors d'ouevres, wine and music by the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation.
