Ground Broken for New Library
On May 24, 2002, dignitaries from Seneca Falls including Senator Michael Nozzolio, members of the Town of Seneca Falls Town Board and Mynderse Library Board of Trustees, broke ground for the new Mynderse Library. The event signified commencement of construction for the new 11,800 square-foot building. Chrisanntha Construction Corporation is the designated contractor and anticipates the project will take 10 to 12 months.
During the ceremony, Senator Michael Nozzolio surprised the audience when he announced that he has secured another $100,000 from the State of New York to assist with the library's funding. This augments the $750,000 in state grants procured by Nozzolio in December 2001.
The new library will be located at the corner of Cayuga Street and Beryl Avenue. A generous donation of $86,000 from the Town of Seneca Falls Town Board enabled the library to purchase this 1.5-acre parcel. Architectural plans for the building were completed by Beardsley Design Associates of Auburn, NY and feature a one-story building complete with a mezzanine and brick exterior. Located in the heart of the historic district, the building's architecture is designed to blend in with local structures.
One of the hallmark's of the new library is a children's area with a stage for programs, kid-sized furniture and bookshelves. The library will also house 18 computers with free Internet access, meeting and conference rooms, large work room, plus ample shelving space for book collections and reference materials.

In September 2001, the Mynderse Library Board of Trustees launched a community-wide capital campaign to raise funds for this endeavor. To date, the Board has raised nearly $2.4 million and is well on its way to reaching its goal of $3 million.
