Fine and Loan Policies

Overdue Fines:

Books, audio cassettes, periodicals and interlibrary loan books: 5 cents per day per book with a top fine of $3 per book.

Videocassettes: will be loaned for 3 days and a fine of $1 per video, per day will be assessed for late videos.

No library materials will be loaned to patrons with outstanding fines.

Loan Periods:

Books, audio cassettes and periodicals: No more than 10 items per card will be loaned for 4 weeks. Items can be renewed for 1 additional four week period. New books and books with reserves will not be renewed.

If reserved books are not picked up within one(1) week, the next person on the list will be called.

Interlibrary Loan Books: ILL books will be loaned for 4 weeks, or for a loan period as designated by the owning library.

Videocassettes: Videos will be loaned for 3 days.

Only two (2) videos per households may be checked out.

Library materials will not be loaned to patrons with overdue library materials.

No more than 5 ILL requests per patron will be accepted at any one time. These requests must be submitted on ILL request forms provided by the library.

If the book comes from the Finger Lakes Library System, there will be no charge. If the book comes from a library outside the system, the borrower is responsible for the return postage. The cost will be $1.00 per book and $1.50 per book if the owning library asks that it be insured.

Patrons that abuse ILL privileges will forfeit these privileges.

The above polices are implemented to better server the public. If there are problems or questions, we at Seneca Falls Library are more than willing to listen and talk to you.

 

NYS EDUCATION LAW #265. DETENTION. Whoever willfully detains any book, newspaper, magazine, pamphlet, manuscript or other property belonging to any public or incorporated library, reading-room, museum or other educational institution, for thirty days after notice in writing to return the same, given after the expiration of the time which by the rules of such institution, such article or other property may be kept, shall be punished by a fine of not less than one nor more than twenty-five dollars, or by imprisonment in jail not exceeding six months, and the said notice shall bear on its face a copy of this section.
